About Us
Lucky Farm Minis believes that hope and healing are the result of the miniature horse equine therapy program we offer the community.
The name Lucky Farm was created to honor our rescue horse named Lucky. Little did we know rescuing him would brighten our lives and turn into Lucky Farm Minis where we continue to remember his legacy of love and gratitude.
Hope may be the first time a special needs student shows emotion while reaching to give a hug. Or a bedridden patient opens his eyes to see a mini horse in his room and smiles. That is healing to the family in the room watching. The connections come from the minute the horse is unloaded at a facility.
Minis on the Go
Studies have shown the value of the human/animal bond.
Researching this led to becoming volunteers with Pet Partners, enabling us to make a meaningful impact on our community since 2016. Toni, Cara, Betsy, and Roxy are all tested every two years to be certified Pet Partners Volunteers, which meet the highest standards.
Visits have included medical, educational, and community events. Military personnel were paid a visit during pandemic times, and we even social distanced! A unique opportunity we embarked on was a visit to speak with the inmates at the Fulton County jail through the Canine Cellmates program. Betsy joined the visit to the jail and enjoyed helping educate the wonderful men we met!
Who is Lucky?
Our sweet Lucky was rescued in 2010. He was living on a rented pasture on the other side of our farm with his companion Spinner. One winter day Spinner laid down and could no longer get up, it was his time to cross the rainbow bridge. Our vet assisted his owner, and then we discussed how poor his health had been – he had not been taken care of for a very long time. We knew if we didn’t take Lucky he would not make it. He was very skinny, covered in fungus, and sad.
Lucky was “around 20” years old when we took him. We hoped we could get weight on him and get him healthy, and really just to have some time to love him. Each year that passed we celebrated his anniversary with us, which turned out to be 11 years! He was the ambassador of our farm, and the patriarch for the mini girls. They all just adored him. We miss our Lucky every day!
